 Calgary is Canada's third-largest city. Its modern architecture, some of which I show in colour and monochrome versions, is extraordinary. The Public Library and Studio Bell (Canada's National Music Centre) are free-to-enter public facilities. Also included: the enormous sculpture of a head known as The Wonderland Sculpture, which one can walk inside. |

 The Rocky Mountaineer train journey from Banff to Vancouver is a spectacular two-day journey, with an overnight stay in Kamloops. The train passes through the Canadian Rockies and other wonderful scenery. What caught my eye as well were trackside scenes including some that were quite unexpected. |

 Ronda is a town situated about 65 miles west of the city of Málaga, within the autonomous community of Andalucia (Andalusia). It is known for its cliffside location and a deep canyon that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the town (Wikipedia).Much of the town is appealing photographically but, on this occasion, the sunsets were special.  The Alhambra is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture and one of the best-preserved palaces of the historic Islamic world (Wikipedia). It is both wonderful and frustrating to photograph. The architecture on a grand scale and in more intimate ares is stunning. Inevitably, the site is crowded with tourists (of which, of course, I was one). I can find fault with several of the images now posted but they represent some of the best from the 250 or so taken on the day. |

 Taken over two days (7 and 9 February 2023), these images reflect the distinctly variable conditions we experienced. I especially like the ones that followed a period of rainfall when the sky was quite menacing. In one or two cases, I have pushed the boundaries of editing in terms of colour saturation. | (Contains 5 photos)
 We stopped for a couple of hours on Friday 10 February to photograph tree plantations around Chauchina. This gave an opportunity not only to seek to capture the symmetries of the scenes before us but also experiment with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM).ICM is not a technique I have practised to any extent in the past, and I was grateful for the advice of Astrid McGechan. I am sure responses will range from appreciation to repudiation in the way that (more) abstract art often does. However, these five images show something of the range of the images I enjoyed making. |

 Black and white photography is an area of increasing interest for me (and, I suspect, many other photographers). In this portfolio, some images are shown with the colour version (or something close to it) for comparison. The contrasts can be quite striking, with each form having its own strengths. As expected, the absence of colour underlines bleakness in some scenes, textures in others. I like the way one can push editing much further in b/w without the image looking excessively doctored. The Ancient World
These images reflect my passion for learning about the ancient world. Over the past few years, I have been studying ancient civilisations generally, and Egypt in particular.

 Most/all of these images can't match those of ancient Egypt in terms of visual impact. However, the places and archaeological finds they represent are fascinating. The twelve photographs here are from a collection of some 1600 taken in various locations in England and Scotland. |
